Our Projects
Our Partners
Total E&P Bulgaria and its partners on the Han Asparuh exploration have established a long-term relationship with Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" – the oldest school of higher education in Bulgaria. This is in line with our policy of supporting academic institutions in the country and educating qualified Bulgarian specialists in the oil & gas field. Back in 2014, a donation was made of 11 microscopes for a petrography laboratory in the Geology and Geography Faculty.
To formalise this relationship, Total E&P Bulgaria signed a framework cooperation agreement with Sofia University in 2015. As an example of our commitment under the agreement, specialised geology courses organised with the help of Total Professors Association secured experienced international lecturers. In the last five years, 9 courses were held in SU with more than 120 students.
In September 2019, the renovated and modernized chemical laboratory at the Geology and Geography Faculty was opened thanks to the financial support of Total and its partners. The renovation included the installation of a modern air conditioning system and the supply of laboratory fume hoods, acid resistant fans, safe cabinets, laboratory island, muffle furnace and a drying oven.
As of 2019, Total is also sponsoring annually the Summer school “Energy management” organized by Utilities magazine and the Center for educational services at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the Sofia University attended by Master degree students, PhD students and professionals from the energy industry.
Total E&P Bulgaria is planning further activities in cooperation with Sofia University as it shares our values of excellence, progress, diversity and human capital development.
The University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” is a learning and research centre based in Sofia where engineers in geological, mining and electromechanical specialties are being trained. Total E&P Bulgaria has signed a framework cooperation agreement with the University for strategic partnership in education, research and innovation in the domain of oil and gas exploration and production. The objective is to boost the employability of local talent in an increasingly competitive international environment.
The offshore drilling and HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) courses with lecturers from the Total Professors Association were the first initiative we implemented jointly in 2015 for the students. We have also supported the Annual International Conference of the University where we presented an update of our activities to the scientific community. In 2018 the Han Asparuh reading corner was inaugurated in the university library. Arranged with Total branded furniture, it contains specialised literature for oil&gas offshore drilling, donated by Total and its partners.
Total’s commitment contributes to improving the skills of Bulgarian specialists in the perspective of future exploration projects and potential petroleum developments in the country.
After 4 years of successful partnership with universities in the capital, the company has found a new academic partner in Varna – “the Black Sea capital”.
In July 2017 Total E&P Bulgaria signed a framework cooperation agreement with Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy.
It will serve as a platform for long-term and strategic cooperation in education, research and innovation. The main objectives of the agreement are to promote modern technologies within Bulgarian students and specialists, best practices of offshore industry, the corresponding Health, Safety and Environment standards and to elaborate research programmes and academic content related to hydrocarbon Exploration & Production activities. Between 2017 and 2020 seventy-six students took part in 3 courses.
In 2019, Total provided funding to the Naval Academy in Varna for setting up a remote sensing center for oil spill monitoring and decision making. The project was aimed to contribute to the protection of the Black Sea coastal area.
Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy is the oldest technical educational institution in the Republic of Bulgaria with a history of 139 years and numerous present achievements. Its mission is to develop highly qualified leaders for the Bulgarian Navy and the maritime industry and to prepare them for the challenges of the global maritime economy.
